Rangers forward Youssef Chermiti has been officially named the Scottish Premiership Player of the Month for February. The 21-year-old’s lethal form has reignited the Light Blues’ title hopes, as he notched an incredible five goals in just four league outings during the month.
The Portuguese striker’s February highlight reel included a clinical hat-trick against current league leaders Hearts and a devastating first-half double against Celtic. To cap off his individual haul, Chermiti also scooped the Goal of the Month award for his jaw-dropping overhead kick in the Old Firm derby—a goal originally slated for February but played on March 1.
“I’ve Been Trying That Goal for a While”
Speaking to Sky Sports News after receiving his trophies, Chermiti credited the support of the Ibrox faithful and the coaching staff for his recent surge in confidence. The striker has quickly become a focal point for the team as they enter the business end of the season.
“Yeah, obviously it was a great month for me. I think the team did well as well, so I think it was good for everyone,” Chermiti said. “I’ve been trying that goal [the overhead kick] for a few times, but fortunately it happens in this game. Old Firm games are good to score in, so it was a really good moment for me.”
He added: “The fans give me a lot of love now. The manager, everyone in the club is helping me. I feel more confident in the team and with my teammates.”
The Hunt for the Title: 27 Points Up for Grabs
Rangers currently sit third in the Scottish Premiership table, trailing leaders Hearts by six points and rivals Celtic by just one. With nine games remaining in the campaign, Chermiti believes the momentum is shifting in Glasgow’s south side.
“Everyone believes we can win the league,” Chermiti asserted. “We’ve got 27 points to go, nine games, so that’s the most important thing for us. We’re going to look forward, game by game, and we’ll see.”
Next Up: St Mirren Away
Rangers will look to maintain their pressure on the top two this Sunday as they travel to Paisley to face St Mirren. The match will be a key test for Chermiti to see if he can carry his award-winning February form into the final stretch of the season.
Sunday’s clash at the SMiSA Stadium is live on Sky Sports.
