Danny Rohl Confirms Rangers Board Backing and Summer Rebuild Plans

Rangers head coach Danny Rohl has broken his silence on his future, insisting he has received “unbelievable support” from the Ibrox board despite a disastrous run of form. The German coach has been under intense fire after three consecutive Premiership defeats saw the club’s title dreams evaporate, leaving them guaranteed to finish third behind Hearts and Celtic.

Rohl, who replaced Russell Martin in October, initially sparked a resurgence that saw the Gers hunt down the league leaders. However, a post-split collapse—compounded by a painful Old Firm defeat on Sunday—means Rangers will finish another campaign without silverware. This slump has led to vocal frustration from sections of the support and fueled rumours linking Rohl with a return to his homeland with Bundesliga side Wolfsburg.

“No Question Mark” Over Future

Despite the noise, Rohl remains defiant about his position in Govan. When asked if he had been given formal assurances about his job security for next season, his answer was a simple: “Yes.”

“I think the last 48 hours, there was unbelievable support from the board,” Rohl explained. “Everyone around me sees a lot of positive things, but we are also critical of ourselves. I think there is no question mark.”

A Massive Summer Rebuild Awaits

While Rohl looks set to stay, the playing squad is facing a total overhaul. The most significant departure is captain James Tavernier, who is set to end his 11-year association with the club this summer. With several loan deals also expiring, the German coach is eyeing a squad with more “authority.”

Rohl believes the exit of a long-standing captain like Tavernier serves as a “big signal” for the direction the club must take in the transfer market. The focus for the recruitment team is now on bringing in proven winners who can handle the unique pressures of Glasgow.

“We need new leaders, more leaders for the dressing room, to set our standards that we want on the training pitch and in difficult moments in the game,” Rohl said. “I think this is crucial. This is a great opportunity to work on this.”

Aligning with the Board

Rohl revealed that extensive meetings took place yesterday to map out the club’s strategy. He insists that he and the hierarchy are on the same page regarding the profile of player required to close the gap on Hearts and Celtic next season.

“You can really trust me, I’m very clear—especially after the last three weeks—what we need to be top, top, top,” Rohl added. “The most important thing is we have to take all the information and what we need into the new season.”

With three games remaining in a dead-rubber end to the season, the focus has clearly shifted from the pitch to the boardroom as Rangers prepare for one of their most pivotal summer windows in recent memory.
