Kieron Bowie has been warned that a mid-season move to Rangers or Celtic could stall his meteoric rise, with pundit Michael Stewart advising the Hibs talisman to stay at Easter Road for at least another 18 months.
The former Fulham youngster has been in sensational form, taking his tally to nine goals for the season after netting the opener in last weekend’s 1-1 draw with Motherwell. His physical presence and clinical edge have reportedly slapped a £6.5 million price tag on his head—a figure that would shatter Hibs’ current transfer record.
Stewart: “Stay for 18 Months”
Speaking on the Premier Sports Scottish Football Social Club, Stewart was adamant that Bowie’s development is best served in Leith.
“My advice to Kieron Bowie would be: there is no rush to get out that door,” Stewart urged. “He is starting to find a wee bit of form again. The best thing he could do for his career would be to stay at Hibs for the next 18 months. Get to this stage next year, and then you can realistically talk about what he is going to do.”
Stewart believes that with Hibs pushing for European football under David Gray, Bowie is already at a “really good club moving in the right direction.”
The Glasgow Giants Circle
Despite the advice, the noise from the west remains deafening:
- Rangers: Danny Rohl is reportedly desperate for more “cutting edge” up front. With Danilo transfer-listed and questions over Youssef Chermiti’s consistency, Bowie is seen as a long-term upgrade.
- Celtic: Martin O’Neill has already admitted he needs to “supplement the squad.” With Kyogo Furuhashi preferring to stay at Birmingham City and Kelechi Iheanacho sidelined through injury, Bowie has emerged as a top target.
The £6.5m Question
Hibs boss David Gray has remained calm despite the swirling rumours, noting that speculation is simply a “sign of the football club doing well.” However, the board at Easter Road may find it difficult to turn down a fee in the region of £6.5 million—especially if English Championship clubs join the bidding war.
Bowie’s current contract runs until 2028, giving Hibs total leverage in any negotiations. For the player, the dilemma remains: jump into the high-pressure title race now, or listen to the pundits and “shelve the talk” until 2027.
