Rangers complete signing of Belgian left-back Tuur Rommens in Danny Röhl rebuild

Rangers have moved quickly in the January transfer window by completing the signing of Belgian left-back Tuur Rommens from Westerlo.

The 22-year-old becomes Danny Röhl’s second addition of the window, joining the Ibrox club on an initial three-and-a-half-year deal as the new head coach looks to put his stamp on the squad.

Deal agreed after strong Belgian Pro League showing

Rommens arrives in Glasgow with an impressive CV, having clocked up more than 79 appearances for Westerlo in the Belgian Pro League.

Highly regarded for his energy and attacking output from left-back, the defender has also represented Belgium at Under-21 level, earning nine caps and further underlining his pedigree.

Transfer fee breaks £3m mark

The deal is understood to be worth in excess of £3 million, highlighting Rangers’ intent to back Röhl in the market despite recent financial caution.

Rommens follows midfielder Tochi Chukwuani through the door, with the pair forming the early pillars of the German coach’s January rebuild.

Immediate impact possible at Ibrox

Sky Sports News understands Rommens could be involved straight away, giving Rangers an instant option in a problem position.

However, the club are expected to carefully manage his minutes in the early weeks after he recently recovered from a minor knock picked up during his time in Belgium.

Röhl reshaping Rangers in his image

Röhl has made no secret of his desire to inject pace, intensity and youth into his Rangers side as he looks to revive a faltering campaign.

The arrival of Rommens fits that profile perfectly, with the left-back seen as both a short-term solution and a long-term investment.

More movement expected this window

Rangers’ business is not expected to stop here, with further additions and possible departures anticipated before the window slams shut.

With Rommens now through the door, supporters will hope the Belgian can hit the ground running and help spark momentum during a critical phase of the season.
